My son Isaiah had the chance to lead worship in my place last week. I hear a lot of people say things about him like “that boy is just like his Daddy,” “he’s a chip off the old block” or “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
These statements are so true! In fact, I see so many of my personal traits in all of my four children. Call it nature or call it nurture but it’s definitely in our DNA to be like our parents.
Have you ever caught yourself looking, laughing, smiling, or even acting just like one of your parents? Do you ever catch yourself using the same phrasing or terminology? I believe this is a pattern that God put into place. We carry in our DNA pieces of code that imitate our Fathers.
I believe the same to be true about our Heavenly Father.
In the book of Genesis it says this:
“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
(Genesis 1:27 NLT)
We were created by our Father and have been given a measure of the same traits He possesses. If we look at who God our Father is, the first thing we will notice is that he is the creator.
I don’t think we really give that title enough attention. We all understand that He said, “Let there be” and then it came to be but we often neglect to look at His creation from an artistic perspective.
I mean, we all know God created trees, but have you ever realized the complexity of all the various trees and realized how magnificently they grace our horizon?
He spoke the stars and planets into existence! but when we go out at night and look up do we truly recognize what a beautiful canvas He has enveloped us in?
God imagined and spoke into existence everything our eyes take in. Our Father is the ultimate creative thinker and since we are made in his image we too carry that same trait!
I’ve always loved creating. Whether I’m writing a song or drawing a picture, lighting a stage or preparing a message, creativity is a God-given ability that is stamped into our souls and is like a pressure that has to be released! We thrive when we create, and understand that it’s not just reserved for “artistic” people.
Designers, carpenters, architects, craftsmen, planners, thinkers, arrangers and even re-arrangers, whether you are painting a portrait or a fence, thinking of solutions or cooking a meal
You Are Creative!
I believe that God wants us to think creatively to produce creative results in every area of ministry of our church.
With that being said I would love to invite anyone reading this blog to join me as we hold our first Creative Team meeting:
Wednesday, January 25th
7 pm in the Auditorium
If you would like to be involved in collaborating with a team that looks at what we do as a church and how we can make the biggest impact in our community, I would love for you to be on the team!
We will look at everything we do at M1 Church from our Worship experience to Outreach and just bring together our inherited creative hearts.
And dream, imagine and plan!
We are a chip off the ole’ block. Let’s team up and get some creativity flowing!
